TTYredirector in Modem Applications
Equipment and software
-
Modem applications run on Linux-based x86 client computers.
-
A modem server with sufficient total modem capacity is centrally located where telephone services can be provisioned.
-
TTYredirector is installed on client computers.
-
On each client computer, TTYredirector pseudo-tty devices are configured for each application that dials modem connections.
Networking
-
TTYredirector (on the client computer) must be able to make TCP/IP connections to the modem server on demand, using a specified TCP port number at which the modem server provides the next available modem.
-
The connection from the client computer to the modem server typically uses a local area or managed network.
Typical applications
-
Console-level management of servers and network equipment
-
Facility automation for access control, security systems, HVAC
-
Automated gas/electric meter reading, 911 systems, medical data collection, SCADA
